Demographic behavior of the members of elite groups in the second half of the 19th century Abstract This presented diploma thesis is a probe into the lives of senior civil servants who worked in Bohemia in the second half of the 19th century. And it was during this period that, along with the overall transformation of society, there was also a change in the reproductive behavior of the population, known as the demographic revolution. The goal of the work was to assess the demographic behavior of this selected elite group as comprehensively as possible, based on a sample of data provided from the database of members of parliament in Czech countries. At the same time, the goal of the work was to find out, based on the analyses, whether the individual aspects of the then ongoing demographic revolution manifested themselves among senior civil servants. Senior civil servants were divided into two groups based on the date of their first marriage, and with the help of basic descriptive statistics and more advanced statistical methods, these groups were then compared to identify differences in demographic behavior. The result of the work was the finding that senior civil servants who had their first marriage in the second examined period were influenced by the demographic revolution taking place at that time from...
The Options of Life Possibilities for the New Householder´s Siblings Who Did Not Gain the Father´s Homestead. The Estate of Protivín 1780-1830
ČERNÝ, Václav
The hereby presented dissertation thesis pursues the life prospects of brothers and sisters related to new owners of rural grounds located in three South Bohemian villages at the turn of the 18th and 19th Century. The very core of this analysis was coming to know the fortunes and life stories of such siblings, from the day of birth until their passing a milestone of realized marriage. The work itself was based on an extensive study of numerous archival files, comprising church and land registers, and lists of subjects, completed with records needed and used by nobility. Methodologically, this work proceeds from genealogical and history-demoghaphical attitudes. The circumstances of rural farmsteads´ transfers, most imporantly the choice and age of an heir became the subject of research here. Furthermore, groom service of the owner´s offsprings and - as the case may have been - recruitment of his sons could not stay left aside. As a secondary subject of research, entering into marriage and subsequent application of marriage strategies as an important part of social mobility were put under scope.

Jirková, Pavla ; Maur, Eduard (advisor) ; Horský, Jan (referee) ; Sulitková, Ludmila (referee)
THESIS ABSTRACT The subject of the research - the Early Modern burgher will - is viewed in the thesis from the standpoint of family structures, historical demography and sociotopography. The sample of 968 Jihlava wills from the period 1578-1624 were subjected to statistical analysis. Moreover, from a methodological perspective the nature of this research is similar to micro-historical and prosopographical approaches. The aforementioned theme was compared to conclusions of the literature concerning historical demography and family structures (especially English) as well as foreign sociological and anthropological studies. The results of this research were evaluated from the point of view of the annual number of wills as possible indicators of the chief trends in mortality, and possible connections were traced between the number of children named in the testaments and the inheritance system. Given the numerous marriage contracts concluded by testators, the study also looked into the "marriage market" and the duration of marriages. Other questions discussed in the thesis include, for example, family and household positions, disabled people, gender studies and intergenerational property transfer. Finally, in terms of the sociotopographical study, the houses of sorted testators were located within the framework...

Klečková, Diana ; Velková, Alice (advisor) ; Fialová, Ludmila (referee)
Development of the family structures in the South Bohemia in the 19th century Abstract This work is a probe into the life of a historical family in southern Bohemia in the second half of the 19th century. During this period, the Czech lands underwent the most significant qualitative changes in the history of mankind. However, these changes associated with industrialization had a rather negative impact on South Bohemia and caused South Bohemia to become a poor agricultural area with a high rate of emigration. Using the methods of historical demography, the development of not only family structures, but also the structures of inhabitantsand households, which are very closely connected with the family, is analyzed on the example of the village Bernartice. Analyzes are performed over a period of forty years from the data of the first modern censuses, carried in years from 1869 to 1900. The population in Bernartice stagnated in the period under review and high migration from southern Bohemia did not significantly disrupt the structure of population, families, and households. However, more difficult living conditions probably resulted in an increase in the coexistence of families with relatives, a smaller number of family members, and a lower representation of servants. Keywords: historical demography, family,...

Šimsová, Marie ; Doležalová, Lucie (advisor) ; Horský, Jan (referee)
The presented master thesis deals with the work of Jane Austen. The author's novels are analysed from the perspective of the concept of the family, both from a literary and demographic point of view. These research questions constitutes two subject of the examination. The first subject is the family, as it is the cornerstone of Jane Austen's short stories. The conclusions show that Austen applied this determination in all studied novels. This work further examines the degree of cooperation and rivalry of the individual families in the novels. At this point, a significant diversity of interfamily relationships was found. Secondly, this work maps selected demographic idiosyncrasies in Jane Austen's family, in the families from her short stories, and in historical demographic studies of England at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. This thesis focuses on the number and composition of individual families, their origin, social status, property relations and to some extent legal relationships, mainly related to the issue of inheritance and the situation of widows in...

PROCHÁZKA, Filip

These changes have been described on the basis of a set of four population censuses which were taken during the above-mentioned period.
